The Annals of Proteomics and Bioinformatics (APB) is a fully open-access journal operating under the Gold Open Access Model. This means that all content is freely accessible to readers worldwide, with publication costs supported through Article Processing Charges (APCs) paid by authors, institutions, or funders after acceptance.

APCs are applied only after acceptance and cover all publication-related services — from peer review to permanent archiving.

1. Purpose of APC

APCs ensure sustainability of open-access publishing and cover the operational costs required to process, review, and publish scholarly content while maintaining high ethical and editorial standards.

  • Editorial management and peer-review coordination
  • DOI assignment through CrossRef
  • Copyediting, typesetting, and quality control
  • Digital archiving in Portico and PKP PN
  • Open-access distribution under CC BY 4.0 license

2. Current APC Structure

The APC varies depending on the article type and category. APB follows a tiered pricing system for different research domains:

Category Article Type Amount
Category 1 Case Report, Clinical Trial USD 2949
Category 2 Short Communication, Case Study USD 2949
Category 3 Opinion, Editorial USD 2949
APCs are invoiced after editorial acceptance and before publication. No submission or revision fees apply.

3. Services Covered by the APC

  • Comprehensive peer-review management and editorial oversight.
  • Professional language and technical editing.
  • DOI registration, CrossRef linking, and metadata dissemination.
  • XML-JATS and PDF version generation.
  • Inclusion in major databases and digital repositories.
  • Long-term archiving via Portico, LOCKSS, and PKP PN.

4. Payment Process

Upon acceptance, an invoice will be issued to the corresponding author via email. Accepted payment methods include:

  • Credit/Debit Card (via secure gateway)
  • Wire Transfer / Bank Deposit (SWIFT/IBAN supported)
  • PayPal or institutional payment portal
Confirmation: A payment acknowledgment and digital receipt will be provided within 2–3 business days.

5. Waivers and Discounts

APB is committed to supporting researchers from developing countries. Waivers or partial discounts are available to authors based in World Bank–classified Low and Lower-Middle Income Countries. Requests should be submitted before acceptance via the Waiver Policy form.

6. Institutional and Funder Support

Many research institutions and funders reimburse APCs for open-access publications. Authors are encouraged to verify eligibility with their institutions or funding bodies prior to submission.

  • Plan S–compliant funders (e.g., cOAlition S)
  • European Commission and Horizon Europe
  • NIH and Wellcome Trust (USA & UK)

7. Refund and Withdrawal Policy

Refunds are only available under limited circumstances such as double payments or journal-side technical errors. Please review our Refund Policy and Withdrawal Policy for details.

8. Tax and Currency

All charges are quoted in USD. International authors may be subject to additional transaction or conversion fees based on their bank or payment provider. No VAT or GST is applied to APCs for international transactions.

9. Transparency and Ethics

APB follows the DOAJ Principles of Transparency and Best Practice and COPE Financial Integrity Guidelines. All APC records are maintained securely and are auditable under the publisher’s compliance protocols.
